Info

Thursday, July 2, 2026 at the Cabaret Sauvage, the Summer Festival brings together two stages that cultivate groove and collective pulse, between Lagos and Japan.

Seun Kuti & Egypt 80. A singer, saxophonist and percussionist born in Lagos, Seun Kuti grew up within the orbit of Egypt 80, the afrobeat orchestra founded by Fela Kuti. He joined it at age 12 and took over its leadership in 1997. At the helm of the group, he extends the rhythmic backbone and taut brass that make up afrobeat’s DNA, while tightening the songwriting and maintaining a clear political message. His repertoire links funk, highlife, jazz and West African traditions, and has expanded across studio albums, most recently Heavier Yet in 2024. On stage, Egypt 80 remains a close-knit collective where grooves unfold, answer one another and relentlessly carry Seun’s voice.

Ajate as the opening act. The project of Japanese musician John Imaeda brings together ohayashi, ancestral festival music, and afrobeat in a ten-piece ensemble. Drums, flutes and hand-crafted bamboo instruments form a percussive and melodic foundation that supports call-and-response singing. A meeting between Japanese traditions and West African rhythms conceived for the stage, where the polyrhythms gradually draw the listener into dance.
