Comme on quitte un imperméable is an adaptation of the eponymous novel by Thomas Fersen that will be published by Le Seuil in May 2026. A co-production by Zouave and La Scala, this show, directed by Samuel Achache, will premiere this summer in Avignon, then be performed in Paris and across France until the summer of 2028. Interspersed with songs either unreleased or drawn from his repertoire, and performed by Thomas Fersen accompanied by three musicians, Comme on quitte un imperméable tells, in octosyllables, how, after discouraging beginnings in music and the loss of his part-time job as a cable puller, the hero is sent to Mexico by his father. Tender and funny, Thomas Fersen lends his youthful memories to his apprentice globe-trotter. With whimsy, he evokes exoticism and luxuriance, devotion and religiosity of the lands he traverses, offering us an allegorical view of his adventures. An initiatory voyage, an epic as piquant as it is rocambolesque, the dangers to which the hero exposes himself are as many rites of passage into adulthood. Tender and funny, Comme on quitte un imperméable carries us away by the poetic force of its writing. As a singer-songwriter and performer, Thomas Fersen is a singular figure of the French chanson with his inimitable gift of evocation.
