Ipséité: Back to the Roots of Techno
Detroit, the 1980s. Techno begins to take shape. Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson—the Belleville Three—lay the foundations for a new sound. A music that quickly becomes a space of freedom and gathering for Black, queer, and marginalized communities, outside the established codes. Then the sound travels. It crosses borders, eras, and scenes, to Paris, where it finds a venue that, too, traverses time: La Java, open since 1923 and today one of the oldest clubs still operating in Paris.
On November 21, at La Java, Ipséité returns to its roots.
Mental. Groovy. Raw.
Three ways to bring the sound to life, to honor those who shaped it, to keep its values alive and to continue inventing what comes next.
From midnight to 7 a.m., Ipséité takes over La Java for a night entirely dedicated to this original energy, with a lineup and activities centered around the modular synthesizer for guests to discover and experiment with throughout the evening.
What’s on the program:
Eight hours of mental, groovy, and raw sound
A modular synth demonstration
An evening rooted in LGBTQIA+ values and the fight against all forms of discrimination to guarantee a safer space for everyone.
