Cosmo Regarts presents Lescop at the Rex in Toulouse.
Lescop's return with this third album resembles the reinvention of a French-language new wave. This natural-born child of rock and punk has rediscovered the sense of an intimate rebellion after weathering a few inner storms of singular intensity.
As if reconnecting today with the very essence of candor—dark and joyful at once—of his first hit La forêt, he thus allowed an entire generation hungry for meaning and for new sounds to dance on the hot embers of a hybridization that defines the identity of today's French pop.
In tandem with director Thibault Frisoni, Lescop has built his pop edifice of 13 luminous songs around the themes of mutation, love and rebirth. In no particular order, the incandescent and uncompromising voices of Izia, Halo Maud, and Laura Cahen are heard.
The mixing by Ash Workman lends the record a natural light, turning Brighton into a Balearic destination.
While the poetic imprint of Pasolini sits beside those of Bob Dylan, Etienne Daho or Daniel Darc, a trio of inspiration that testifies to a return to the very essence of pop, Lescop has titled his third album Rêve parti. In 13 songs with obsessive magnetism, he succeeds in convincing that it remains possible to reinvent the dream in all its utopian force.
