Info
On March 6, 2027, Omar Souleyman will perform at SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen, with his unique mix of Syrian dabke and club-ready electronic music. What began as wedding music from the northeast of Syria grew into a live act that works just as well at festivals as in dimly lit venues: tight, fast rhythms, melodic keyboard lines, and that direct, almost mantra-like vocal delivery that pulls you in.
Souleyman first built his name through recordings circulating in the region, but broke through internationally with compilations and later with albums that brought his sound to a larger audience. Think of the period around Wenu Wenu, where Four Tet's production sharpened his party music and made it even more hypnotic, and albums such as Bahdeni Nami, To Syria, with Love, and Shlon, in which that same drive continues to surge. In live performances, he often appears as a duo with keyboardist Rizan Sa’id: a set that asks for no explanation, only movement.
