Info
Dicte has, for decades, been a prominent and uncompromising voice on the Danish music scene. From her breakthrough as the lead singer of Her Personal Pain to a long solo career with nine albums, she has moved freely between rock, soul, blues and pop, with her distinctive vocal timbre and musical curiosity intact.
In 2024, Dicte released her ninth studio album, Let’s Escape, with clear threads to 1970s rock and soul. Although several of the songs were written in the wake of her mother's death, one encounters a Dicte who dares to say and sing the things exactly as she feels them.
Now Dicte is opening a new chapter. In connection with her 60th birthday, she has turned to her English-language back catalog and reinterprets the songs in Danish, not as nostalgic retrospectives, but as new songs written from the place in life where she stands today. First came Konge af alt, which began to rotate on P5, and most recently Egne ben, a reinterpretation of Mobile Home and a buoyant ode to the freedom of standing at a point in life where expectations weigh less, and one can again choose one’s own path.
Musically, too, the songs have been given new life. The sound threads together the dustiness of 1970s rock, contemporary country, and melodic indie pop—organic, direct, and with an edge.
Dicte now stands on her own, without the need to chase the trends of the moment, but with the desire to challenge herself, write new songs and move musically.
