Info
The Silos are a legend among indie rock and Americana bands. After two promising and commercially successful debut albums in the early nineties, many already saw them in a league with R.E.M. or Sonic Youth. In the Rolling Stone critics’ poll, they were named Best New Artist, and they even appeared on David Letterman’s Late Show.
But things turned out differently. Disputes with the record company and internal conflicts led bandleader Walter Salas-Humara to dissolve The Silos. Many years and several solo albums later, he re-formed the band. Today The Silos have become a family, with numerous musicians. Permanent lineup changes and shifts in location determine the Silos’ activities, depending on the current life situation of WSH, this NYC-born musician with Cuban roots who also pursues painting.
Musically, he is best described as a blend of Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed, and Bob Dylan with Latin influences. The Silos’ sound is a smart, catchy mix of indie- and guitar-pop with traces of Velvet Underground and Television, as well as the alt-country rock that bloomed in the 1980s, rooted in The Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers. The Silos are regarded as an important influence in the alt-Americana / No Depression scene and in the indie/independent sphere. On the 2027 European tour at Elfer in Frankfurt am Main, listeners will hear not only Silos classics but also songs from the album ‘Everything.’
