The Downtown Boys, an American punk rock band, are known for placing their progressive politics at the heart of the scene.
The project began in Providence, Rhode Island, from the meeting of singer Victoria Ruiz and guitarist Joey La Neve DeFrancesco, who met during a series of labor-union meetings at the workplace: from that experience emerged the band’s earliest songs, fed by the fight for workers’ rights. Today the band is a quintet, completed by Joe DeGeorge on saxophone and synth, Mary Regalado on bass, and Joey Doubek on drums.
Over the years the Downtown Boys have established themselves as one of the most authentic voices in the American punk scene, capable of turning every show into a moment of energy and political engagement.
The band has just released their new album Public Luxury on Sub Pop Records.
