House of OM 20th Anniversary: Colette b2b DJ Heather

The 20th anniversary of the House of OM: Colette & DJ Heather compilation marks a milestone for two pioneers of the electronic music scene. Released in June 2006 on OM Records, this double-disc mix became an important moment for Chicago house music, spotlighting the lifelong friendship and musical synergy of two of the genre's key artists.

Before they became global headliners, Colette and DJ Heather forged their bond in the underground of 1990s Chicago, driven by a shared love for the city's four-on-the-floor sound. By the mid-2000s, both artists had been signed to San Francisco’s label OM Records, establishing themselves as artists who performed hundreds of shows annually. This culminated in the release of House of OM: Colette & DJ Heather. The double album captured their complementary sonic identities:

Disc 1 (Colette) featured smooth, funky, vocal-heavy tracks, including her own performance on All The Same alongside contributions from Kaskade, Andy Caldwell and Greenskeepers.

Disc 2 (DJ Heather) delivered a deeper, instrumental-focused exploration of Chicago jack, featuring tracks from Inland Knights, Giom and Mark Farina.

The release was an underground and commercial favourite within the dance community, serving as a masterclass in track selection and seamless mixing. Following the release, the duo embarked on extensive North American tours with fellow OM label mates. The success of those shows laid the groundwork for their annual Second City Sessions tours, launched in 2009. This collaborative banner featured Colette and DJ Heather playing extended back-to-back sets.

Reflecting on their long personal friendship and the 20-year legacy of the House of OM era, both artists have deep gratitude for their enduring partnership and appreciation for the compilation that changed the trajectory of their careers. To mark the anniversary alongside the OM Records 30th anniversary celebrations, they return to Toronto at Wiggle Room for a House of OM 20-year extended set.
