On October 18, 2026, Brushy One String lands at Hootananny Brixton in London with the kind of setup that looks almost too simple to work: a battered one-string guitar, a voice, and a whole lot of groove. Born Andrew Anthony Chin and raised in Jamaica, he’s the son of reggae singer Freddie McKay, but he’s carved his own lane by turning that single string into bass, rhythm and percussion at once.
Onstage, the minimalism isn’t a gimmick. Brushy loops tight, repetitive motifs and leans into a raw, direct way of playing where the beat comes from the instrument as much as his hands and phrasing. His sound moves naturally between roots reggae, blues, soul, folk and dancehall, with the kind of live energy that’s been taking him from Jamaican TV to international festival stages for years.
