Founded in 1996, Timo Rautiainen & Trio Niskalaukaus is known for its heavy rock sound. The band spent eight years on the Finnish heavy rock scene. Of their eight albums, four have surpassed the gold or platinum threshold, and the popularity of their live performances was substantial. The lineup’s most well-known songs include Nyt on mies!, Surupuku, Lumessakahlaajat, Rajaton rakkaus, Kylmä tila, Hyvä ihminen and Suomi sata vuotta. More than 130,000 albums have been sold.
In 2002 the band received four Emma Awards (Album of the Year — Pop/Rock, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Band of the Year). In December 2004 the band entered an indeterminately long touring hiatus, which ended in 2017 when the band returned to the stage with a new album and live performances.
In spring 2025 Trio Niskalaukaus released a new drummer joining the lineup. The Lahti-born drummer Aksu Hanttu, who had honed his craft as a hard-hitting drummer in previous metal bands, took on the role, and the summer 2026 festival shows demonstrated that the band had made the right choice.
In autumn 2026 Timo Rautiainen & Trio Niskalaukaus will tour to present, among other things, material from the cover EP released in September. The EP features, among other things, a newly arranged version of Jenni Vartiainen's Surun on kunniavieras and, from the Swedish death metal band Hypocrisy, Ruovesi -47, originally titled Roswell 47.
