Ride returns to the stage on 14 February 2027 at the O2 Institute Birmingham, with this blend of pop tension and chiaroscuro guitars that defined the late 1980s. Formed in Oxford around Mark Gardener and Andy Bell, the band established itself from its first EPs and with Nowhere and Going Blank Again—two records in which the melodies stay sharp even when everything saturates, sustained by a solid rhythm section and layers of fuzz that pile up without choking the choruses. During the 1990s, Ride broadened its palette toward a more direct rock, before a split and parallel trajectories, then a reformation in 2014. Since then the quartet has regained a very lively band dynamic, confirmed on their recent albums, up to Interplay. In concert, everything hinges on the dialogue between the two guitars and the voices, between rising intensity and dreamier, more suspended moments, with that unmistakable way they have of making the mist sound like a riff.
