If you follow the new indie scenes in New York closely, Chanel Beads is a name to keep in mind. Behind the project, Shane Lavers shapes lo-fi pop between dream pop and hypnagogic pop, with a penchant for fragile melodies, blurred textures, and songs that always seem on the verge of dissolving. The voice, often subdued, blends into hazy arrangements made of collages and subtle distortions, like pop kept at a distance—more suggested than asserted. After the EP Zut Alors (2018) and a string of singles released from 2020 onward, including Strobe Light Two / Layup, Let’s Go Out Tonight, and True Altruism / Ache, the project consolidated its language on the album Your Day Will Come (2024), preceded by Police Scanner, Idea June, and Embarrassed Dog. On stage, Chanel Beads extends this writing, straddling intimacy and abstraction at the crossroads of songwriting, ambient, and a slightly deconstructed pop.
