If you follow the current emo and pop-punk trajectories, Hot Mulligan is one of those bands that grew up in Michigan's DIY scene and learned to fuse catchy melodies with nerve-wracking intensity. Driven by the contrasting voice of Tades Sanville and the guitars of Chris Freeman, the band navigates between pop punk, emo and melodic post-hardcore, with that sense of breaks and the collective chorus you end up singing along to without realizing it. From Pilot to you'll be fine, then Why Would I Watch, the writing remains direct, centered on relationships, mental health and coming of age, with an intensity that comes as much from speed as from breaths.
Opening act, One Step Closer brings back the urgency of Pennsylvania's melodic hardcore, fast tempos, tight gang vocals and emotional tension, between From Me to You, This Place You Know and Songs for the Willow. wakelee completes the lineup with taut New York indie rock, with marked melodies and emo-tinged accents, built for the live show and tighter songs.
