The Three Degrees

On 19 September 2026 The Three Degrees perform at Patronaat in Haarlem. The vocal trio from Philadelphia formed in the early 1960s and found its definitive lineup in the 1970s, notably with Sheila Ferguson and Valerie Holiday alongside founder Fayette Pinkney. On Philadelphia International Records, under producers Gamble & Huff, their self-titled album was released in 1973. The collaboration with MFSB resulted in 1974’s “TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia),” while “When Will I See You Again” became an international hit that same year. After that, their sound shifted toward soul with a disco pull, audible on New Dimensions (1978) and 3D (1979), partly recorded in Europe with a more electronic approach.

On stage the emphasis is on close harmony, tight arrangements and a blend of soul, pop and disco that touches the core of the Philly sound. The set draws from their early work and later singles, allowing space for the songs the trio has made its own. Despite personnel changes, the signature remains recognizable: lead harmonies, sustaining melodies and rolling grooves.
