Goran Bregovic Wedding and Funeral Band. « Three Letters from Sarajevo »

On 30 May 2027 Goran Bregović brings his Wedding and Funeral Band to De Doelen in Rotterdam with Three Letters from Sarajevo. The guitarist and composer from Sarajevo builds here on his trajectory from rock with Bijelo Dugme to film music, forging a live set in which Balkan traditions and Roma influences meet pop and rock structures. Think of brass that drives things forward, choral singing answering solo voices, and melodies that circle through violins, accordion and percussion.

Three Letters from Sarajevo forms the backbone of the show: pieces that shift between contemplative and exuberant, leaving space for soloists and a fanfare timbre that stays close and immediate. The Wedding and Funeral Band is Bregović’s sound laboratory: brass and rhythm act as the engine, while his guitar and arrangements navigate the turns between dance and reverie. Without forcing nostalgia, he draws motifs from Balkan music that feel direct and physical, embedded in concise, cinematic compositions. A concert where narrative and groove find each other, exactly as Bregović likes them to speak on stage.
