On October 16, 2026, at the 6MIC in Aix-en-Provence, Dominique Fils-Aimé will present her vocal jazz shaped in Montreal, informed by her Haitian roots and the legacy of African-American music. Her soulful voice, with a velvety timbre, is built around rhythm, backing vocals and silences, producing pared-down songs that breathe as much as they groove. First recognized in the mid-2010s, she constructed a striking trilogy with Nameless, Stay Tuned! and Three Little Words — a cycle that probes the history and memory of people of African descent by blending minimal soul, contemporary jazz, echoes of spirituals and touches of R&B. With Our Roots Run Deep she extends this more introspective course, between lineage and rootedness, further refining the balance between pulse and harmony. On stage she favors intimacy and meticulous attention to detail, allowing space for dynamics, breathing and vocal dialogue. The concert is conceived as a showcase for her compositions, where vocal textures take the lead and shape a set that is at once intimate and expansive.
