Info
On 13 March 2027, Jools Holland will bring his blend of boogie-woogie, rhythm and blues and swing to the Music Hall Worpswede. The London pianist, born in Blackheath in 1958, first became known as a founding member of Squeeze alongside Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook. Since the 1980s he has pursued his own path, defined by a piano style that combines rolling bass lines, a nimble right hand and plenty of groove. His songs draw on blues, rock ’n’ roll and swing, often featuring strong brass colors and arrangements that harken back to big-band traditions without losing the immediacy of rhythm and blues.
On stage Holland relies on driving shuffles, elegant boogie runs and crisp call-and-response moments with the band. The repertoire ranges from instrumentals to vocal numbers that reveal his fondness for soul and pop. In addition to his studio work — including albums such as Sex & Jazz & Rock & Roll, The A–Z Geographer’s Guide to the Piano and Small World Big Band — many know him from British television, from The Tube to Later... with Jools Holland. In Worpswede the focus is clearly on the piano: rhythmically dense, melodically accomplished and played with a joyous energy that reaches straight to the audience.
