Badlands Music Festival lines up two names in North American bass music at the Badlands Tent in Calgary on July 10, 2026: Slander and Crankdat.
Slander is the Los Angeles duo of Derek Andersen and Scott Land, active since the early 2010s. Their tracks push a blend of melodic writing, trap and dubstep, switching between vocal-led hooks and low-end that hits hard. Alongside festival and club tours across the US, Europe and Asia, they’ve built a catalog that moves from future bass toward pop-leaning electronic formats, a direction sharpened on their 2022 album Thrive. Longtime collaborators with NGHTMRE, they also run the Gud Vibrations imprint, a hub for their bass-driven sound.
Crankdat is Christian Smith from Ohio, first noticed for online remixes before shifting to originals. His productions sit across the US bass spectrum: dubstep, trap EDM, flashes of drum and bass and more melodic breaks. Expect tense builds, dense drops and rhythmic switch-ups shaped across EPs like Gearworld Vol. 1, Fearworld, Mechanised Mayhem, Sad Robot and Slaughter House. Collabs with Slander, Adventure Club and others place the project at the crossroads of dubstep, bass house and EDM aimed at large stages.
