Info

Dead Calm takes over Strange Brew in Bristol on 14 September 2026. Under this alias, Irish musician Liam McCay pares his music back to the bone, working with slow tempos, muted guitars and a writing style that leaves room for breath. The show centers on the quiet tension that runs through his songs, where each chord change lands with intent and texture carries as much weight as melody.

Since 2022, McCay has explored a small constellation of identities; with Dead Calm he keeps the focus tight, between indie rock, lo-fi and slowcore. Short forms, soft strums, almost whispered vocals and a minimal toolkit define the project, echoing his work as Sign Crushes Motorist, Birth Day and Take Care without blurring the lines. It is music built on restraint rather than volume, more about presence than display.

On stage, Dead Calm folds material from Accept (2023) and Keep Moving (2025) into a set that drifts between fragile sketches and grainier passages, letting tape-like textures, pedal noise and held silences shape the flow. Special guests round out the bill.
