Drummer Dave Weckl and bassist Tom Kennedy lead a razor‑focused fusion quartet built on interplay, pulse and melody. On stage they favor conversation over effect: pressing dynamics that pivot into open, singing lines, grooves that tighten then breathe, motifs passed around until they land on the one note that matters. Their palette moves through modern jazz with funk edges, Latin sway and Afro‑rooted patterns, all framed by crisp arrangements that leave room for risk and response.
This tour spotlights Tom Kennedy’s new album New Start, produced and mixed by Dave Weckl, reimagined live with a tougher bite and elastic tempo shifts. Longtime partners, Weckl and Kennedy anchor the band while inviting counterlines and harmonic detours from keyboardist Stu Mindeman, and lyric arcs and bursts of grit from saxophonist Ryan Devlin. Expect knotty unisons that unravel into airy textures, solos that rise out of the pocket and slip back into tight ensemble figures, and a momentum that builds without overstatement.
