The Gathering bring Mandylion back to the foreground for its 30th anniversary, on 19 May 2026 at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London. Formed in the Netherlands in 1989, the band first explored atmospheric metal with a doom tint before Mandylion (1995) redirected their course with expansive melodies and a voice-led approach that carried them beyond genre lines. That shift opened the way to Nighttime Birds and, later, to the exploratory textures of How to Measure a Planet? and Souvenirs, where post-rock, trip-hop and ambient shades entered their palette.
For this anniversary date, the set will lean on Mandylion-era material: tension-and-release dynamics, slow-burn riffs and airy layers that mark The Gathering’s DNA. Three decades of evolution give these songs new contours, linking the weight of the early years to the cinematic breadth of their later records.
