The universe of Gong began in 1969 when Daevid Allen was inspired by a psychedelic vision. A founder member of Soft Machine, Allen incorporated his spiritual and metaphysical leanings into an evolving collective, more a mythology than a band in the conventional sense. The current incarnation, put together by Daevid before his swan song album with Gong, 'I See You', honours his intention that Gong not end with him. Gong perform at The Horn, St Albans on 14 July 2026 at 7:00 pm.
The collective has been stable, having written, recorded and toured together for eleven years since Allen’s passing. A live band, their music draws from the credo of the original Gong while remaining committed to pushing the composition, performances and message into new realms, without nostalgia. Gong in 2026 continue the ethics, attitude and lifestyle that were always woven into the fabric of the band.
