On 22 October 2026, Scarborough Spa in South Bay, Scarborough brings together two fixtures of UK alternative rock: Inspiral Carpets and The Wonder Stuff.
Born in Oldham in the early 80s, Inspiral Carpets helped define the Madchester moment with Clint Boon’s signature organ lines, a garage bite and a psych-pop glow. First noticed by John Peel with EPs like Planecrash and Trainsurfing, they moved from their Cow imprint to Mute and cut a run of albums — Life, The Beast Inside, Revenge of the Goldfish, Devil Hopping — built on tight hooks, driving rhythms and a sixties tint revisited. After a split and a return in the 2000s, the band reunited with original singer Stephen Holt and released their self-titled album in 2014, keeping that lean, melodic edge intact.
Formed in 1986 in Stourbridge, The Wonder Stuff emerged from the grebo scene with taut guitars, sharp tempos and very British choruses, then opened their sound to folk and country shades when violin and banjo joined the mix. From The Eight Legged Groove Machine and Hup to Never Loved Elvis and Construction for the Modern Idiot, the group built a catalogue that balances bite and melody, and later carried on with albums like Escape from Rubbish Island, Oh No It’s... The Wonder Stuff, 30 Goes Around the Sun and Better Being Lucky. A pairing that revisits two distinct strands of UK indie history in one night.
