Info

On 16 June 2026, The Piece Hall in Halifax hosts a double bill bringing together Garbage and Skunk Anansie, with Du Blonde opening. A meeting of two distinct strands of 90s-born rock, both still very active on stage and in the studio.

Formed in Madison in 1993, Garbage unites producers-musicians Butch Vig, Duke Erikson and Steve Marker around the voice of Shirley Manson. From the self-titled debut (1995) to Version 2.0 (1998) and through to No Gods No Masters (2021), the band blends alternative rock with electronic textures, grunge echoes and trip-hop influences, a studio-driven approach that shaped hits and the James Bond theme The World Is Not Enough. On stage, this catalog leans into dark, melodic contours and tightly built rhythms.

Skunk Anansie emerged in London in 1994 with Skin, Ace, Cass and, from 1995, Mark Richardson. Their sound crosses alternative, hard rock, punk and metal, with lyrics touching on power, identity, sexuality and religion. The trio of albums Paranoid & Sunburnt (1995), Stoosh (1996) and Post Orgasmic Chill (1999) set the tone; the 2009 reunion led to Wonderlustre (2010), Black Traffic (2012) and Anarchytecture (2016), keeping a direct, politically charged edge.

Du Blonde, alias Beth Jeans Houghton, opens with a raw mix of psych, garage and punk-pop. From Welcome Back to Milk (2015) to Homecoming (2021) and Sniff More Gritty (2024), her songs pair rough guitars with sharp hooks, setting the night in motion.
