Info

On 1 February 2027 at XOYO Birmingham, Sylosis and Whitechapel shared the stage for a night rooted in the heavier corners of modern metal.

Driven by guitarist-vocalist Josh Middleton, Sylosis arrive with a blend of thrash, melodic death and progressive edges. Riffs cut fast, harmonised leads swerve into wide dynamics, and song structures stretch just enough to establish tension and release. The recent A Sign of Things to Come continues the thread begun on Cycle of Suffering, while retaining the sharp energy of early albums like Edge of the Earth and Monolith. Live, the band alternates bursts of speed, atmospheric respites and abrasive vocals, with obvious care given to the guitar arrangements.

Formed in Knoxville, Whitechapel deliver a deathcore built around three guitars and Phil Bozeman’s voice. The foundations remain death metal—heavy and syncopated—with a taste for massive breakdowns and guttural registers. Since The Valley and then Kin, the band has opened up more space with more melodic passages and clean vocals, without abandoning the abrasive backbone that made them known.

Opening the bill, Cleveland’s 200 Stab Wounds rolled out direct death metal: mid‑tempo pacing, changes of cadence and short, clipped riffs. Between Slave to the Scalpel and Manual Manic Procedures, the formula has thickened without losing its edge, balancing dark groove and the gore imagery inherited from the ’90s.
