The Handsome Family, Danny George Wilson

The Handsome Family bring their stark, story-driven strain of Americana to Saint Luke’s & The Winged Ox in Glasgow on May 19, 2026. Formed in Chicago in 1993 and now based in Albuquerque, the duo of Brett and Rennie Sparks have spent three decades crafting songs where murder ballads brush against folk tales and roadside epics. Brett shapes the melodies and that low, unhurried voice; Rennie writes lyrics steeped in American folklore, gothic imagery and odd news items. Their sound folds traditional country, folk and bluegrass into stripped-back arrangements that let the narratives breathe.

Their catalogue sketches a singular arc, from early records like Odessa and Through the Trees to Singing Bones, whose Far From Any Road later slipped into the world’s ear as the opening theme of True Detective’s first season. They kept tracing their own line with Last Days of Wonder, Honey Moon, Wilderness, Unseen and, most recently, Hollow (2023), each album sharpening their mix of plainspoken melodies and uncanny detail.
