Current Joys

Current Joys is the solo vehicle of Nick Rattigan, launched in Nevada in the early 2010s alongside his work with Surf Curse. Early releases like Wild Heart (2013) and Me Oh My Mirror (2015) leaned into lo-fi immediacy, diaristic lyrics and raw guitar lines that sit between bedroom pop, folk and indie rock. With A Different Age (2018) the writing tightened and nodded to new wave and post-punk, while Voyager (2021) broadened the scope toward something more spacious and cinematic. Across these shifts, Rattigan keeps the core simple: uncluttered melodies, restrained tempos, and a production grain that lets the songs breathe.

Current Joys plays Electric Bristol, Bristol, on 23 August 2026. Live, the project moves from intimate solo moments to a fuller band drive, letting quiet sketches swell into denser rhythms and noise. Older cuts often appear reworked alongside newer material, with the rough edges intact and a mood that lingers.
