David Gray takes over Lincoln Castle on 28 June 2026 for an open-air set that traces his path from early folk‑rock beginnings to the pared-back pulse of White Ladder and beyond. His blend of acoustic guitar, piano and discreet electronics includes songs such as Babylon, This Year’s Love and Sail Away, joined by more recent tracks drawn from Life in Slow Motion, Gold in a Brass Age and Skellig. Clear songwriting, straightforward melodies and a voice with a recognisable grain: Gray creates moods that unfold effortlessly, somewhere between intimacy and forward motion.
Sharing the bill, The Divine Comedy, the project led by Neil Hannon, unfolds its chamber-pop with crisp orchestrations and finely wrought storytelling. Strings, piano and precise arrangements carry songs fed by everyday observation and a subtle humour, with nods to Casanova, Fin de Siècle, Absent Friends and Office Politics. On stage, Hannon navigates between gentle irony and melancholy, supported by a band that keeps the lines tight without weighing them down.
Two singular approaches answer each other at Lincoln Castle, Lincoln, for an evening where pop songcraft rests as much on the intimate as on the arrangement.
