Billy Ocean, born Leslie Sebastian Charles in Trinidad and raised in East London, has shaped a sound at the crossroads of R&B, soul, pop and Caribbean inflections. From early breakthroughs like Love Really Hurts Without You and Red Light Spells Danger to the mid-80s run of Suddenly, Caribbean Queen (No More Love on the Run), Love Zone and Tear Down These Walls, his warm, agile voice sits on grooves that balance live feel and sleek synth textures. Beyond the charts, he stepped onto global stages in the Live Aid era and kept recording across decades, from Time to Move On to One World, while staying firmly connected to performance.
Marti Pellow, first known as the singer of Wet Wet Wet, has built a solo path that moves easily between pop-soul, ballad writing and re-interpretations. After Smile in 2001, he explored different shades with Between the Covers, a Memphis-soaked soul turn on Moonlight Over Memphis, jazz vocal colors on Sentimental Me, then a run of albums that keep his melodic phrasing front and center.
