Editors

Editors will be appearing at Le 106 in Rouen on 26 January 2027. Formed in 2002 in Birmingham, the band led by Tom Smith established itself at the heart of British indie rock carried by the post‑punk revival wave. Dark guitars, taut rhythms and deep vocals first staked out the ground with The Back Room and then An End Has a Start. In This Light and on This Evening opened the way to a greater use of keyboards. After Chris Urbanowicz’s departure in 2012, the arrival of Justin Lockey and Elliott Williams accompanied a shift toward more atmospheric rock and sombre pop on The Weight of Your Love, In Dream and Violence. The compilation Black Gold then summed up that first decade, slipping in a few previously unreleased tracks.

Since 2022, Editors have incorporated electronic musician Benjamin John Power and pushed synthetic textures further with EBM, where the pulses brush against the industrial. On stage, this evolution can be heard in a blend of dark riffs, synth washes and emphatic rhythms that spans two decades of songs, from the taut early material to the more electronic recent tracks. A band in constant motion, between post‑punk, shadowy pop and digital impulses.
