Gift + Palea

Gift + Palea will perform at Covo Club on April 25, 2026, at 7:30 PM. The band Gift – TJ Freda, Jessica Gurewitz, multi-instrumentalist Justin Hrabovsky, drummer Gabe Camarano and bassist Kallan Campbell – has roots scattered around the world (from Salt Lake City to San Francisco, via Boston and Brazil) and comes from varied professional backgrounds: photography, talent buying, DJing, audio engineering, art direction and running DIY venues. This melting pot of heterogeneous skills makes Illuminator a cohesive listening experience, with Gurewitz – relatively new to the music world – contributing lyrics and vocal melodies, while Camarano’s drumming provides the rhythmic backbone for the album’s 11 tracks. Hrabovsky, who previously worked as a sound technician at Drop of Sun and Echo Mountain Recording in Asheville, North Carolina, shared production duties with Freda for the first time.

Gift formed in 2020, when Freda “recruited” musicians from some of his favorite bands, crossing his fingers and hoping for the best. From there, the band drew on their collective experiences to shape a new sound: a blend of early shoegaze, ’90s alternative rock and modern pop, which took shape on their 2022 debut album, Momentary Presence. The LP showcased the group’s creative potential, and the band attracted listeners’ attention both at home and abroad.

Illuminator is the natural outcome of Gift’s growing musical and personal chemistry. The album says a lot about us without stating it directly: falling in love, broken hearts, events flashing by like cars on a highway, people who enter and leave our lives, mourning the transitions between phases, and the sense that everything is happening at once. For these reasons, Illuminator moves through these themes.
