Laurie Anderson

On 29 May 2026 at the Triennale Milano, Laurie Anderson presents a solo version of Republic of Love. A performer, singer and musician, she weaves voice and electric violin into a set that spans art rock and contemporary music. Born as an intervention on the relationship between government and love, Republic of Love has evolved into a performance-discourse that combines narration, sound and imagery, reflecting on the state of the arts and the world in times of crisis. On stage, the amplified violin underpins spoken text and song, with a restrained use of electronics and a sonic writing that alternates narrative fragments and instrumental passages, conceived for immersive listening.

A central figure on the New York scene, Anderson has worked for years across performance, film and visual arts. With O Superman (1981) she reached a broad audience and went on to release albums such as Big Science, Mister Heartbreak and Homeland. Landfall, recorded with the Kronos Quartet, earned her a Grammy in 2018. She was the first artist-in-residence at NASA, has explored virtual reality—work that was awarded at the Venice Film Festival—and has collaborated with Brian Eno, Philip Glass and Wim Wenders. Her work intersects technology, language and memory; in Republic of Love she finds here a direct, essential and entirely live form.
