Info
On 8 June 2026 at Teatr Wielki – Opera Narodowa in Warsaw, Ephemera Festival opens with Polish composer and pianist Hania Rani unveiling the Polish premiere of Shining, performed with Hashtag Ensemble. Drawing on the legacy of minimalist pioneers like Steve Reich and Philip Glass, the piece builds through hypnotic patterns and luminous textures, letting small shifts create a slow-burning momentum. Known for bridging contemporary composition with ambient sensibilities, Rani approaches Shining as a living form, driven by pulse, repetition and subtle interplay between piano and ensemble. Recent work in film music, including the award‑winning score for Sentimental Value, adds another facet to her writing, heard here in a concert setting for the first time in Poland.
The evening also welcomes Grammy-winning Pakistani vocalist Arooj Aftab. Her music folds classical South Asian vocal traditions into jazz, minimalism and delicate electronics, favoring sparse arrangements, spacious tempos and voice-forward storytelling. Vulture Prince brought her widespread attention and a Grammy, and since then she has taken this intimate sound to major stages worldwide. For Warsaw, this marks Aftab’s first concert in the city, a rare chance to hear her songs stretch between ghazal poetics and contemporary improvisation in the resonance of the opera house.
