Young The Giant

On 13 October 2026 Young the Giant will perform at SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen. The band from Irvine, California began as The Jakes and, from 2009 under its current name, has carved out its own path between indie rock and alternative pop. Frontman Sameer Gadhia leads a sound that leans on melodic guitar lines, choral vocals and a rhythm section that shifts between pulsing grooves and more subdued passages. Live, the group plays with contrasts: compact songs, room for dynamics, and a balance between newly layered synths and the immediate feel of a guitar band.

Since their self-titled debut from 2010 the palette has expanded. Mind over Matter (2014) introduced more electronic textures, Home of the Strange (2016) emphasized themes of identity and heritage, and Mirror Master (2018) explored a more introspective tone. With American Bollywood (2022) Young the Giant traced a cycle around diaspora and the transmission of culture, drawing on influences beyond the Western rock tradition. Onstage the band reaches into that entire period: from early guitar-driven tracks to recent work with layered arrangements and multi-part choruses. In Groningen, that comes together in a set that highlights both the energy of their indie roots and the broader hues of their later albums.
