Info

St. Paul & The Broken Bones play The Academy in Dublin on 22 October 2026. Formed in Birmingham, Alabama, the band roots its sound in Southern soul while opening it to contemporary writing. Built around singer Paul Janeway and bassist Jesse Phillips, the lineup leans on horns, keys and a tight rhythm section to shape a blend of soul, rhythm and blues, touches of funk and gospel accents. First imagined as a studio project, the group quickly found its footing on stage across clubs, theatres and festivals in the US and Europe.

From Half the City (2014) and Sea of Noise (2016) to Young Sick Camellia (2018), The Alien Coast (2022) and Angels in Science Fiction (2023), their catalogue moves from a retro soul base toward more psychedelic and atmospheric textures, sometimes brushing against rock. Live, the focus stays on Janeway’s expressive voice, compact grooves and brass arrangements that anchor the set while leaving space for dynamics. The Dublin date taps into this evolution, drawing on deep grooves, slow burners and wider textures shaped by horns, keys and a rhythm section that keeps everything tightly locked.
