Info

Mary Black brings The Slán Tour to Vicar Street, Thomas Street, Dublin 8, on 8 May 2026. Born in Dublin into a family rooted in traditional music, she started singing young and found her footing in the city’s clubs alongside her brothers. After a first professional step with the folk group General Humbert in the mid-70s, she launched her solo path with the 1982 album Mary Black. Her trajectory moves from Celtic folk ballads anchored in the Irish tradition to a contemporary acoustic blend of folk, country and pop, a shift shaped by her long-running collaboration with musician and producer Declan Sinnott.

She also joined De Dannan, touring across Europe and the US and deepening her link to the Irish folk scene. On stage, the repertoire spans a rich catalogue: Collected (1984), Without the Fanfare (1985), By the Time It Gets Dark (1987), No Frontiers (1989), Babes in the Wood (1991) and The Holy Ground (1993), then Circus (1995), Shine (1997), Speaking with the Angel (1999), Full Tide (2005) and Stories from the Steeples (2011). Along the way, she has taken part in collective adventures such as A Woman’s Heart and shared songs with artists including Joan Baez. The Slán Tour in Dublin ties these threads together in a focused, intimate format built around songs and stories.
