Info
Although the five members of Ulrika Spacek have each followed their own paths, the band has always stood as an emblem of collective art. Despite their different primary professions (experimental physicist, graphic designer, music producers), this shared commitment is evident in the common dream logic of their music: in the unusual melodies, the raw, jagged guitar tones, and the whirring, cloudlike sonic atmospheres. It appears in all that is said and unsaid between them; in the co-writing, producing and mixing of their pieces. And even though each individual member moves toward a common vision, the sense of togetherness is nowhere more palpable than in the larger whole to which Ulrika Spacek belong.
The group’s latest album, EXPO, is a dialectic between the analog and the electronic. Although their roots lie in the art-rock sphere—and although they are more inspired by electronic elements than ever—Ulrika Spacek are interested in the discrepancy between the two genres. Their music engages with human warmth and digital isolation, being at once welcoming and disorienting. In many respects the band articulates the tension that shapes modern life.
