Info
The Whitest Boy Alive celebrates 20 years of Dreams on August 30, 2026 at Ancienne Belgique, Brussels, Belgium. Formed in Berlin in 2003 around Erlend Øye (vocals, guitar) with Marcin Öz (bass), Daniel Nentwig (keyboards) and Sebastian Maschat (drums), the quartet shifted early from an electronic project to a fully live band. Their hallmark is a lean, groove-led sound where guitar, bass, keys and drums lock into understated patterns that sit between indie pop, funk and minimalism.
Dreams (2006) set the tone with clean melodies and measured tempos; Rules (2009), written and recorded in Mexico, pushed the interplay further and delivered tracks like 1517 and Intentions. The chemistry lies in tight arrangements and a focus on pulse and atmosphere rather than studio tricks.
After a quiet split in 2012, the band resurfaced in 2019 for two South American shows and cut the single Serious in Buenos Aires. Since then, they appear live only occasionally, with talk of new recordings but no dates confirmed. For this anniversary date at Ancienne Belgique, the set circles back to the spirit of Dreams while drawing on Rules and Serious, a rare chance to hear that stripped-down, warm dynamic played with their usual clarity and restraint.
