Tabanka Djaz

Tabanka Djaz lands in Barcelona for the first time: 3 October 2026 at Sala Apolo. With more than three decades on stage, the band from Guinea-Bissau is one of the reference points of modern gumbe, a sound here mixed with afro-zouk, coladeira and urban rhythms. Their hallmark: vocals in Creole and Portuguese, tight harmonies and dance-driven grooves, with lyrics that speak of everyday life, community ties and social issues. Songs that have traveled between Bissau, Lisbon and the African and Lusophone diasporas, and that continue to resonate in concert.

In 2026 the group brings Sperança back into the spotlight, the album released in 1996 that paved the way for Bissau-Guinean music beyond its borders. At Apolo they will present a set that blends their core material with contemporary reinterpretations and arrangements, preserving that band energy in dialogue with the audience.
