Info

Roméo & Juliette has brought together more than 11 million spectators worldwide. Translated into 18 languages and performed in 20 countries, the show has established itself in French musical theatre. Launched in 2001 at the Palais des Congrès, where it drew nearly 2.5 million spectators, the production left a lasting impression on the public memory. From its beginnings led by the duo Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara, the show still allows audiences today to see its original pair on stage.

For Cécilia, returning to Paris with Roméo & Juliette is moving. “I was chosen at 15 to play Juliet, a role that marked the start of my life as an artist. Finding it again twenty years later, alongside Damien, was an important moment, as if we had never been apart but had been enriched by what life has given us. This return has symbolic value: coming back to where it all began, with 25 years of experience that now feed the characters. The story continues to bring people together, to convey love and emotion. It is a joy to rediscover Juliet and the French audience.”

Continuing in the same vein, Damien adds: “Returning to Paris after having taken Roméo & Juliette around the world, notably in Asia, has a particular resonance. This role has accompanied me since 2001, and finding it again today beside Cécilia, with the perspective and maturity that time has brought us, gives this adventure a new depth.”

With more than 9 million records sold and songs that have become touchstones of French pop culture—such as “Les Rois du Monde” and “Aimer”—Roméo & Juliette has left its mark on the history of musical theatre. For nearly 25 years, the show has traveled across cultures and adapted to the changes of its time: new technologies, new staging codes, new audience expectations. Faithful to its DNA while renewing itself, it keeps what defines its identity: familiar songs and a large-scale aesthetic.

For Gérard Presgurvic, Roméo & Juliette remains a love story that poses a timeless question: how far are we willing to go for love? Having the opportunity to reunite Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara, more than twenty years after their debuts, brings a new depth to the production, nourished by the experience they have acquired.

With the announcement of Roméo & Juliette’s return, this marks a new phase. In 2027, Roméo & Juliette comes back in a rethought version, integrating new generational codes while preserving the essence of the show: a story, emotions, and a musical signature. This comeback comes with a new cast, new costumes, and a new scenography, redesigned for today without touching the show’s DNA.
