Info
Tinariwen bring their desert-born sound to The Concert Hall in Toronto on Thursday, September 17, 2026. Formed by Tuareg musicians from northern Mali, the group helped define what many call desert blues, a style they name assouf, a word that carries a sense of longing and distance. Electric guitars weave circular riffs, voices answer one another in Tamasheq, and handclaps and percussion drive a steady, dust-hued pulse. The songs trace roads across the Sahara, speaking of travel, exile, community and the will to move forward.
On stage, Tinariwen strip things to essentials: interlaced guitars, grounded grooves, and melodies that stretch like the horizon. The music draws from traditional ishumar poetry as much as from rock and blues, balancing trance-like repetition with small bursts of improvisation. A set built on flow, where rhythm carries the room and lyrics sketch fragments of memory and freedom. Assouf, live in Toronto.
