Info
Cheekface plays The Mod Club in Toronto on September 28, 2026, with special guest Apes of the State. Formed in Los Angeles in 2017 by Greg Katz and Amanda Tannen with drummer Mark “Echo” Edwards, Cheekface runs a lean indie rock setup that nods to pub rock and post-punk. The vocals slide into talk-singing, the lyrics stick to dry observations, and the guitars keep it straight to the point. On stage, the trio leans on tight rhythms and short, hooky melodies, drawing from Therapy Island (2019), Emphatically No. (2021), Too Much to Ask (2022) and It’s Sorted (2024), with a focus on cadence, tension and everyday detail.
Opening, Apes of the State comes from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Built around the songs of April Hartman and now a quartet with Dan Ebersole, Mollie Swartz and Ian Cornele, the band sits in the folk punk lane: acoustic core, emo and pop punk shadings, sometimes a bluegrass twang. The project has grown from stripped beginnings to a fuller band sound while keeping its DIY footing, with releases like This City Isn’t Big Enough (2016), Pipe Dream (2019) and the split EP They Can’t Kill Us All (2023).
