DJ Assault

On May 9, 2026 at Newspeak in Montreal, DJ Assault takes the decks for a Detroit-style set. Active since the 1990s, Craig De Sean Adams helped define ghettotech by blending electro, Detroit techno, Miami bass and hip-hop. Born from the DNA of block parties and local radio, he made his name with self-released 12-inch singles where rapid tempos, forward bass and chopped vocals shape a sharp, no-nonsense ghetto bass. From Detroit’s clubs and warehouses to Midwest raves, and on to Europe and Japan, he exported this hybrid sound conceived for mixing and the dancefloor. On stage, DJ Assault strings together nervous 12-inch records and homemade edits, layering dry loops, bass-music breaks and vocal cuts calibrated to the millimetre. A prolific producer, he feeds his sets with his Jefferson Ave catalogue, which includes DJ-ready EPs, compilations and more cross-cutting projects. Expect a direct mix—minimal in structure but incisive in energy—with bursts that flirt equally with rap and electro. At Newspeak, Montreal becomes the playground for this ghetto-bass aesthetic, between techno pulse and block-party heritage, offering an immersion at the heart of Detroit.
