Info
On May 21, 2026 at the New Morning in Paris, Antonio Lizana presents his quintet. A saxophonist, singer and composer from San Fernando, near Cádiz, he has carved out since the start of his career a singular path between flamenco and jazz. Nourished by the local Andalusian scene, he has gradually opened his writing to improvisation, blending cante (flamenco singing), traditional palos and compás with contemporary harmonies. First noticed in the early 2010s, he has brought this flamenco-jazz to stages in Spain and across Europe, expanding his work through collaborations at the crossroads of jazz and world music.
In quintet format, his set alternates sung themes, saxophone choruses and spoken passages that establish a narrative thread. Andalusian rhythmic patterns meet the freedoms of jazz; the arrangements give the voices room to breathe and create spaces for exchange. The program features pieces drawn from De viento, Quimeras del mar, Oriente and Una realidad diferente, reworked for the group. On stage, Antonio’s flamenco voice, his saxophone playing and the quintet’s interplay circulate, in the present, Andalusian heritage and the vocabulary of jazz, between rhythmic tension, clear melodies and improvisations that take their time to unfold.
