José González

José González comes to Milan for a solo show on November 17, 2026 at Alcatraz. Born in Gothenburg to Argentine parents, the Swedish singer-songwriter has developed an acoustic style that blends Nordic folk lines, Latin American traditions and the indie spirit of the 90s. After early bands, he pared things back to voice and guitar, a frame that defined Veneer in 2003, home to his version of The Knife’s Heartbeats. He continued along that intimate path with In Our Nature in 2007, then leaned into a more rhythmic, slightly rougher sound on Vestiges & Claws in 2015.

Alongside his solo work, González co-founded Junip in Gothenburg, where his organic approach takes on a fuller, collective pulse. He has collaborated with Zero 7 and written for film, including The Secret Life of Walter Mitty in 2013. Local Valley in 2021 wove Spanish and Swedish lyrics into his catalog while keeping the precise arpeggios and hushed vocals that define his live sets. On stage, small shifts in picking, tone and dynamics carry the songs without ornament, letting the melodies surface at their own pace — the essence of this date at Alcatraz, Milan.
