Fat Freddy's Drop

Fat Freddy’s Drop comes to Madrid on 24 September 2026 at Sala La Riviera. Born in Wellington in 1999, the New Zealand collective cultivates a blend of dub and reggae open to soul, funk and electronic pulses. At the forefront is the deep, velvety voice of Dallas Tamaira (Joe Dukie), alongside Fitchie’s rhythmic laboratory, Dobie Blaze’s keyboards and Tehimana Kerr’s guitar, with a horn section that dialogues with deep basslines and delays.

Honed in live performance, they started with a live album before releasing Based on a True Story in 2005, followed by Dr Boondigga & The Big BW and Blackbird. On stage they stretch songs, move through improvisation and let the grooves breathe: expansive dub, flashes of jazz and house, shifts in dynamics and melodies that grow little by little. After tours that have taken them to stages like Glastonbury and Sónar, their visit to La Riviera recovers that long, organic format, with tracks that transform on the fly between instrumental passages and precise vocal entries. Ensemble music focused on pulse and interaction, it finds its place midway between the sound system and the soul band.
