Info

On 21 August 2026 at Point Éphémère in Paris, The Bats, a pillar of New Zealand indie formed in Christchurch, return for a one‑off show. Four decades on, the lineup remains intact: Robert Scott, Kaye Woodward, Paul Kean and Malcolm Grant. Associated with the Flying Nun label and the Dunedin sound, the band unfurls its chiming guitars, restrained melodies and direct songwriting—qualities forged since their beginnings with albums like Daddy’s Highway and The Law of Things. They perform material from their eleventh album, Corner Coming Up (2025), and bring a blend of jangle pop and melodic rock driven by a supple rhythm section and arrangements free of unnecessary effects.

Special Friend completes the bill. The Parisian indie/noise‑pop duo present their third album, Clipping, due on 20 March, and continue to export their indie rock to stages across Europe. Guitar, drums, shared vocals: a minimal setup that gets straight to the point, alternating between lo‑fi textures and more abrasive surges, in counterpoint to the New Zealanders’ jangle‑lit clarity.
