Nubiyan Twist

Nubiyan Twist arrives at New Morning in Paris on 22 November 2026 with a renewed lineup and a live show conceived for 2026. Born in Leeds around guitarist and composer Tom Excell, this British collective brings nine musicians to the stage and builds a bridge between contemporary jazz, afrobeat, soul, hip‑hop and African music. Brass front and center, a flexible, percussive rhythm section and vocals with a warm groove: their writing leaves room for improvisation while retaining the precise arrangements inherited from the UK jazz scene.

Since their beginnings and albums such as Jungle Run, Freedom Fables and Find Your Flame, the group has refined a sound in which polyrhythms and brass riffs support songs designed for the live setting. On the programme for this concert: new tracks, reinterpretations of their repertoire and long collective build‑ups, ranging between hip‑hop breaks, afro lines and soul harmonies. The energy of their big band finds an ideal playground here, for an organic journey where deep grooves keep the pace.
