God Is An Astronaut

On 23 March 2026 God Is An Astronaut will perform at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. The Irish post‑rock band, formed in the early 2000s in County Wicklow around brothers Torsten and Niels Kinsella and drummer Lloyd Hanney, constructs instrumental arcs of tension in their live shows: clear melodies that swell gradually, layers of guitar that break open, and subtle electronics that fill the space. Their set weaves early work such as The End of the Beginning and All Is Violent, All Is Bright with later albums like Helios / Erebus, Epitaph and the more recent Ghost Tapes #10 and Somnia.

Don’t expect a classic verse‑chorus structure, but rather a stream of themes that shift from ambient passages to heavier sections with a touch of space rock. Contrast is the driving force: serene motifs develop into pulsing rhythms, feedback and drones set the tone, while synths and textures color the finer details. The show relies as much on sound as on visuals; the band employs projections and lighting that give the music a cinematic edge. With no vocals, the focus remains on dynamics and layering, with a set that builds tension step by step and continually opens new perspectives.
